Vietnam Airlines' long-haul fleet to include 14 A350-900 and 18 B787-9 by 2020

Hanoi - The growth of Vietnam Airlines is continuing. The airline has recorded a 6.7% increase in passenger traffic in 2017 compared to 2016.

The number of passengers transported by Vietnam Airlines reached 26.5 million last year. Freight traffic growth was even stronger with a 19% jump to 343,000 tons. This progress is the logical consequence of the increasing demand to air travel from and to Vietnam, the bilateral commercial partnerships with other airline operators within the Skyteam alliance, and a modernization of the fleet that was accompanied by the high-quality onboard services

The airline continues to add new long-haul flights on Tans-Europe and Trans-Atlantic routes. The new routes will be accompanied by the arrival of additional Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Vietnam Airlines long-haul fleet currently consists of 21 aircraft (10 A350 and 11 787-9). This number will increase to 32 aircraft by 2020, divided into 14 Airbus A350-900s and 18 Boeing 787-9s.

The medium-haul fleet will also strengthen as no less than twenty new routes will be opened between Vietnam and China in 2018, the opportunity for Vietnam Airlines to launch its newly hired A321neos.
