Video: Engine fire forces Philippines Airlines Boeing 777 to return to LAX

Los Angeles, California - The engine of a Boeing 777 jet from Philippines Airlines caught fire when it was on its way to Manila from Los Angeles.

The Manila-bound aircraft, Flight 113, was forced to return to Los Angeles Internationa Airport shortly after taking off from LAX due to the fire on its right engine.

The dramatic footage taken by a passenger shows smoke and fire shooting out of the right engine.

“I could see like flashes of light. I thought it was just from the sunlight,” passenger Walter Baumann told.

“And then I started hearing like, ‘boom, boom, boom.’ And then I look out of the window and there are balls of fire just shooting out of the engine.”

The Boeing 777 carried out an emergency landing at Los Angeles International on one engine. No injuries reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.

The incident was also observed from the ground.
