Video: Caspian MD-80 suffers runway overrun, blocks highway

Mahshahr, Iran - A commercial plane operated by an Iranian regional airline skidded off the runway and blocked the highway next to the airport.

The incident happened on Jan. 27. A McDonnell Douglas MD-80, operated by Tehran-based Caspian Airlines suffered a runway overrun after it landed at the Mashahr Airport at 9:30 a.m. local time.

The aircraft lost its landing gear after it hit the pavements on the highway and came to rest on its fuselage.


There were 150 people on board. No significant injuries were reported. Passengers evacuated the aircraft via emergency slides.

Iranian civil aviation authorities are investigating the incident to figure out what caused the runway excursion.

The MD-80 with registered EP-CPZ entered into service with the French regional carrier Air Libert" in 1994.
