The Ugandan Government seeks approval from parliament for the payment of two CRJ900 on order

Kampala - The Ugandan Government has requested approval of the parliament to release a payment of USD 7.53 million for the first two Bombardier CRJ-900 of four on order.

We need to pay UGX280 billion. We have taken a decision and we are proposing that proceeds from the MTN license and also the capital gains tax from the proceeds from the Petroleum Fund be used to finance the UGX280 billion required to complete the payment for the first delivery of the two aircrafts and this payment is required in ten days, said David Bahati, Minister of State for Planning.

State-owned carrier was established in 1976 and began operations in 1977. The airline ceased its operations in 2001 due to financial difficulties.

The government of Uganda plans to relaunch the state-owned airline in April this year with two Bombardier CRJ900. The new regional jets of the Ugandan operator will be used on routes to the neighboring countries in the region.

The carrier has also two Airbus A330-800 on order which will be available from 2020.
