Airbus is now producing the same model on three continents. The bestseller A320 of the European manufacturer runs off the line in North America, Europe, and Asia. This Friday the first A320 leaves the new US plant.

The first A320 made in the USA goes to Spirit Airlines. By the end of 2017, Airbus plans to achieve a production rate of four aircraft per month at its US plant. "In the Airbus production, the sun never goes down," said company spokeswoman Mary Anne Greczyn.

Airbus opened the first final assembly line outside Europe in 2008 in the Chinese city Tianjin, where the Group produces the A319 and the A320. In Europe, the A320 series is manufactured in Toulouse and Hamburg. Airbus establishes another plant in Tianjin to produce A330s.

Boeing moves to China

All of Boeing's final lines are in the US, but in May Americans set the groundbreaking for a manufacturing facility near Shanghai. There will later be produced the cabin equipment of the 737 MAX, which are intended for China.

"Prior to Airbus, everyone immediately regretted having outsourced a production line to China," said Richard Aboulafia, an aviation analyst. "Then Airbus got into the ring and did it right."

In 2016, the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer completed its Chinese joint venture Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry. For over twelve years, the company has been producing regional jets with 50 seats and some Legacy 650 business jets in China.
