Toulouse, France - Airbus has announced that the US ultra-low-cost operator Spirit Airlines firmed up an order for 100 A320neo family jets.
The agreement is part of the airline's fleet renewal and double-digits growth plans in 2020. The planes will be delivered to the budget specialist by the end of 2027.
Spirit Airlines will take delivery of a mix of A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo planes. According to a statement made by the European aircraft manufacturer, the Miramar, Florida-based carrier will choose the engine later that will power its A320neos.
The current A320neos of Spirit are powered by Pratt & Whitney's PW1000G engines.
Spirit Airlines signed a letter of intent with Airbus for 100 A320neo jets last year in October. The airline’s all-Airbus fleet currently consists of 144 aircraft, including 20 A320neo aircraft.
Airbus has so far accumulated more than 7,300 firm orders from 110 customers around the world for its best-selling single-aisle jet family.
