Fort Lauderdale - Silver Airways is planning to start regional operations throughout the second quarter of the year with an ATR42-600 from May 23 on daily return flights between Huntsville and Orlando International.
More deployments are expected to be announced over the coming weeks. Silver Airways signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer for the acquisition of up to 50 brand new ATR-600 series aircraft last year. Twenty of them were secured by Silver Airways via the lease funding from Aviation Capital Group.
According to Aviation Capital, the 20 aircraft comprise twelve ATR42-600s and 3 ATR72-600s which were lately ordered from ATR, and the remaining five (four ATR42-600s and one ATR72-600) are sourced from its existing ATR order book. The first turboprop is due to deliver to Silver Airways in March and the rest expected to arrive over the years by 2020. The new ATRs will replace the current SAAB 340Bs (22 units).
Based at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Silver Airways currently operates around 170 daily scheduled flights to 10 cities in Florida and eight destinations in the Bahamas, with hubs at Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tampa.
