Fort Lauderdale - Silver Airways has launched scheduled flights from Fort Lauderdale with ATR 42-600s, a first in the United States for nearly 25 years.
On April 22, 2019, Silver Airways carried out its first passenger flight with an ATR 42-600 from Fort Lauderdale to Key West International Airport.
The Fort Lauderdale-based regional airline has already taken possession of three of the sixteen 42-600 leased from the Danish lessor Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC).
Silver Airways also expects four ATR 72-600 with options for thirty copies of the same type. The new turboprops of the Silver Airways will enable the airline to expand its network in the Southeastern United States, Bahamas, and the Caribbean.
In a press release, the airline stated that the ATR 42-600s will also enable the regional carrier to offer faster direct flights on the short and medium-haul routes for both leisure and business travelers.
ATR Chief Executive Stefano Bortoli said he is proud of the return of the ATRs to North America.
