Lagos, Nigeria - On July 19, a man climbed onto the wing of an Azman Air Boeing 737 that was preparing for takeoff from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The strange incident happened yesterday morning while the plane was waiting for clearance from air traffic control for takeoff.
The pilots of the aircraft registered 5N-HAI suddenly noticed a man running toward the aircraft. And then the intruder began climbing onto the wing of the Azman Air Boeing 737.
The video footage taken by a passenger shows the man climbing to the wing. He then walks toward the cabin door. It can be heard that passengers yelling in panic.
The pilots informed the tower and shut down the engines. Security forces immediately rushed to the aircraft and arrested the man.
The aircraft returned to the gate and passengers were disembarked from the plane.
The aircraft and luggage were thoroughly scrutinized before determining it was safe to fly, an Azman Air official said.
After all done, passengers boarded the aircraft again and the aircraft took off from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport with a few hours delay for its destination Port Harcourt in Niger Delta.
It remains unclear how the man gained access to the runway as the local police still interrogate the man who is under custody.
FAAN (Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria) suspended the airport security officers who were on duty during the incident.
