Mayotte - After a two-and-a-half-day flight from Toulouse, Ewa Air's new turboprops arrived in Mayotte, via Malta, Aswan, Addis Ababa and finally Dar Es Salaam.

The two brand-new ATR 72-600 landed at Dzaoudzi Airport in Mayotte on December 31st. Ewa Air, the operator of the new ATRs, is a regional subsidiary of the French carrier Air Austral.

After a ceremony on the tarmac of the ATR factory on December 28, the two turboprops took off from Toulouse on December 29 for an amazing flight, including several stopovers to reach the French territory Mayotte, in the Indian Ocean.

The first ATR 72-600 (F-OJZA) landed at 12:55 local time and the second aircraft (F-OJMZ) at 13:10 local on December 31st. Planes were welcomed at the Dzaoudzi Airport with the traditional water cannon salute.

The first aircraft (F-OJZA) made its commercial debut on January 2nd on the Mayotte-Diego-Nosy Be route. The second ATR (F-OJMZ), will make its first scheduled flight on January 4 between Mayotte and Majunga in Madagascar.

Apart from the newly acquired two new ATR 72-600, the only aircraft operated by the airline was an ATR 72-500 since November 2013.
