COMAC C919 reaches 785 orders
Shanghai - ICBC Leasing acquires 55 additional COMAC C919s, allowing the single-aisle under development to reach 785 orders and order intentions by 27 customers.
According to the agreement announced December 5 by COMAC, ICBC Leasing becomes the main customer of the C919 with 100 copies on order.
ICBC Leasing is also COMAC's main customer, having signed an agreement in March 2015 for 30 ARJ21-700.
In mid-November, COMAC announced that the first C919 had carried out six flights since its inaugural flight on May 5, 2017. The aircraft manufacturer based in Shanghai plans to conduct the flight test campaign with 6 aircraft. The second aircraft is scheduled for the first flight by the end of the year. COMAC indicated that the certification campaign would last 3 years.
Recently, China Eastern Airlines, the launch customer of the C919, has been more closely involved in the development program. A dedicated team is responsible for evaluating the cockpit and maintenance operations.
The C919 is designed for 158 to 168 passengers with a range of 4.075 to 5.555 kilometers depending on the version. It is equipped with LEAP-1C engines from CFM International and aims to compete with the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.
