Toulouse - The world's biggest turboprop aircraft manufacturer ATR has achieved a new milestone with the delivery of 1000th ATR 72. The device was handed over to Indian low-cost IndiGo.

Launched in 1986, The ATR 72 was first delivered to Finnair in October 1989. It is still popular with airlines after more than thirty years. This delivery solidifies the ATR 72 as an exceptional commercial success and a benchmark in the regional aviation market.

The ATR 72 is the larger version of the equally popular ATR 42. Over the years 187 copies of the ATR 72-200, 365 of the ATR 72-500 and 448 of the ATR 72-600 were built.

ATR expects market demand for 3000 turboprops in the next twenty years. According to the manufacturer, 30 percent of the regional air traffic will be served by 2037 on the routes that currently do not exist. The ATRs open 100 new routes every year on average across the globe.

The ATR 72 has proven to be an outstanding success for over three decades. We are sincerely proud of delivering this 1,000th aircraft, as it underlines the many advantages it provides to airlines when it comes to ensuring essential connectivity and exploring new business opportunities. We look forward to consolidating and extending the attractiveness and success of the ATR 72 for many more years,
