Fort Worth - Bombardier and Embraer are awarded by an order for 30 new jets that American Airlines will use to strengthen its regional subsidiaries PSA Airlines and Envoy Air from 2019.
American Airlines orders 15 Bombardier CRJ900 and 15 Embraer E175. Each order does worth around $700 million, according to the manufacturers' price lists. While the CRJ900s are intended for PSA Airlines, the E175s will go to Envoy Air. American Airlines informed its shareholders about the deals on May 1st.
Deliveries of the new jets will begin in 2019. Over the past four years, American has purchased around 200 regional jets. PSA and Mesa Airlines operate 118 CRJ900 for the airline giant, and 148 E175 are distributed among the fleets of Envoy, Republic, and Compass.
According to a market study by Bombardier, North American airlines will discard and replace some 2,100 aircraft with 150 or fewer seats by 2036.
As of today, 40 percent of the regional jet fleets is 15 years or more.
