Air New Zealand scraps 85 percent of its international flights

Auckland, Air New Zealand - Air New Zealand has decided to cut 85 percent of all international flights in the coming months. The airline plans to fly domestically only. Main routes with Asia and North America will remain intact.

Flights from Auckland to Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Buenos Aires, Vancouver, Tokyo, Honolulu, Denpasar, and Taipai will expire between March 30 and June 30. There will also be no flights to London between March 20 and June 30.

Exact details of the reduction in the number of flights to island groups in the region are not yet available. Air New Zealand announced that it would fly 30 percent less on domestic routes.

The measures have been taken due to the worldwide Covid-19 outbreak. They will likely cost a significant number of jobs. The management already announced that it would cut 15 percent of the salaries.

European operator Air France-KLM also announced it would cut 70 to 90 percent of all flights in the coming days.
