On Thursday, October 21, Turkish Airlines announced the intention of the company to order 40 787-9 Dreamliner. Boeing and the Turkish government also announced the Boeing Turkey National Aerospace Initiative.

The Boeing Turkey National Aerospace Initiative outlines a strategic framework and covers research and development as well as competence development.

According to CEO Ilker Ayci, Turkish Airlines wants to satisfy the demand for wide-body aircraft at the third airport in Istanbul to further strengthen the fleet capacity of the national carrier in the 100th anniversary of the Republic and to increase passenger satisfaction.

The Boeing Turkey National Aerospace Initiative outlines a strategic framework that aligns Boeing's investments and programs with the government's plans, Turkish airlines, aerospace service providers and suppliers. It covers research and development as well as competence development.

"Together with Turkey, we are now bringing our collaboration to the next level, which will accelerate the growth of the Turkish aerospace industry, while achieving Boeing's long-term goal of expanding its market presence," said Boeing vice president, Ray Conner.
