SINGAPORE — Singapore Airlines (SIA) is taking notable steps to increase its flight frequencies to key markets between March and October 2024. The airline's services, including those to locations like Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Melbourne, will return to levels that match those seen before the pandemic.
One of the highlights of this expansion is the resumption of direct flights connecting Singapore and Barcelona, Spain. Starting June 2, 2024, SIA will offer this route as a twice-weekly service.
SIA announced the upcoming changes on Monday, expressing confidence that these actions are in line with the rising demand for air travel to the specified destinations. An essential part of this plan involves SIA enhancing capacity on various routes by employing larger jets.
For instance, the carrier will deploy the Airbus A350-900 medium-haul jet on the flights to and from Cairns, Australia, replacing the smaller Boeing 737-8. This change, commencing March 31, 2024, will mark the first deployment of a wide-body plane on the route in over twenty years.
In another significant alteration, the Airbus A380 will take over one of SIA’s daily services to Frankfurt, Germany, as of March 31, 2024, replacing the A350-900 long-haul jet. This move symbolizes the airline's superjumbo's triumphant return to continental Europe.
The utilization of A350-900 medium-haul planes will also be seen on the Singapore to Male route in the Maldives. This change, effective from March 31, 2024, is in place of the existing Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
Furthermore, the expansion will see SIA’s services between Singapore and Dubai in the UAE surpass pre-Covid-19 levels, boasting 11 weekly flights starting March 31, 2024. Additional increased frequencies include routes to and from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, and flights to and from Da Nang in Vietnam, both attaining or exceeding their pre-pandemic operation levels.
