BUCHAREST — Romanian authorities have alerted the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regarding operational issues experienced by Wizz Air in the nation, as revealed by Bogdan Mîndrescu, the State Secretary of Romania's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, on his social media platform on August 5.

According to Romania-Insider.com, the cause of concern was Wizz Air's abrupt cancellation of nine flights within a single day, attributed to technical complications. Responding to this, comprehensive dialogues were held that included Wizz Air's upper management. Notable attendees at this dialogue were Yvonne Moynihan and Zsuzsanna Poss, both holding key positions in the Wizz Air Group, Diarmuid O Conghaile of Wizz Air Malta, and Horia Constantinescu, who presides over Romania's National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC).

With the aim of ensuring reliable air transportation, the Romanian administration urgently appealed to Wizz Air's leadership. They requested a tangible strategy geared at curbing flight cancellations resulting from mechanical issues. Additionally, concerns were raised over flight crews possibly working beyond permissible hours.

In the discussions, Horia Constantinescu conveyed to the Wizz Air delegation that he had made the European Authority for Passenger Rights privy to the aviation issues observed in Romania. The clear message from the Romanian authorities to Wizz Air was that adherence to both global and domestic flight standards is non-negotiable, and deviations will be scrutinized rigorously.
