TEL AVIV — Israel's flag carrier celebrated the landing of its brand-new Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Tel Aviv, fresh from its journey from Boeing’s Seattle hub. This wasn't just any flight; it was powered by 30% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), underscoring the airline's dedication to cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions.
In an expression of commitment to the global green aviation initiative, El Al joined hands with the IATA Environmental Assessment Program in June 2023. This association serves as a platform for airlines to put their best eco-friendly foot forward. By entering this program, El Al aims to soar high as a flagbearer in sustainable air travel.
The arrival was marked with its fair share of festivities. El Al's CEO, Dina Ben Tal Ganancia, was in attendance, accompanied by a roster of dignitaries including Nof Hagalil’s Mayor Ronen Plot, President of Boeing Israel Ido Nehushtan, and aviation enthusiasts Kenny Rozenberg and Daryl Hagler. The occasion was honored with a ceremonial water salute, a tradition for such significant aviation milestones.
Ganancia, reflecting on the occasion, stated, “Introducing a fresh Dreamliner to our fleet is always a hallmark moment. Yet, today is doubly special as this aircraft also symbolizes our intensified focus on environmental responsibility.”
This freshly-minted Dreamliner, the fourth Boeing 787-8 in El Al’s lineup, is a beacon of the airline's ambition to rejuvenate and expand its fleet. This modern marvel, which can comfortably seat 238 travelers across three distinct classes, was facilitated via a financing collaboration with ABL Aviation.
With this addition, El Al’s fleet now boasts a robust collection of 16 Dreamliners, inclusive of the Boeing 787-8s and the 787-9s. Catering to global travelers, these aircraft connect diverse destinations spanning North America, Europe, and the Far East. They not only symbolize the airline’s commitment to passenger comfort but also its vision for a sustainable and efficient future in aviation.
