Toronto-Based ULCC Marks Significant Milestone in Fleet Growth

  • Canada Jetlines has acquired its third Airbus A320, with plans to expand the fleet to 15 by 2025.
  • Since its launch in 2022, Jetlines now connects Toronto with Cancun, Las Vegas, and soon, Georgetown in Guyana.
  • Jetlines has secured operating rights in both Jamaica and the North Atlantic, indicating potential growth areas.

TORONTO — Canada'S ultra-low-cost carrier Canada Jetlines marked another significant step in its ambitious growth journey by acquiring its third Airbus A320. Eddy Doyle, the airline's Chief Executive, emphasized, "The expansion of Jetlines’ fleet will enable scheduled service expansion to new leisure destinations.”

While the airline currently holds three A320s in its possession, one of the aircrafts remains in storage, as confirmed by Cirium fleets data. Interestingly, the new A320-200 acquisition, hailed as a "significant milestone" by the airline, is leased via a global aviation lessor. This collaboration underscores the broader strategy Jetlines has adopted, with the Toronto-based ULCC noting its mission to expand its fleet to an impressive 15 A320s by 2025. Each of these A320s will feature a single-class economy configuration, comfortably seating up to 174 passengers.

Since its foray into the North American passenger market in September 2022, Jetlines has established scheduled flights connecting Toronto to Cancun and Las Vegas. Further diversifying its offerings, charter flights have become a pivotal component of the airline's operations. This shift was evident when, earlier this month, Jetlines inked a six-month contract with Caribbean carrier Fly AllWays. This partnership will facilitate weekly charter flights between Toronto and Georgetown, Guyana, with the inaugural flight expected in the upcoming third quarter, pending Guyanese governmental approvals.

Jetlines' international aspirations don't end there. The carrier has successfully acquired a foreign air operator certificate from the Jamaican government in June. This certification, coupled with clearance from Transport Canada, grants Jetlines the license to operate charter flights to Greenland, further expanding its reach in the North Atlantic region.
