The American cargo carrier, which already operates 292 aircraft—including 28 747-8Fs—will also receive seven new and used Boeing 767-300s in 2023, followed by 21 new Boeing 767-300s between 2024 and 2026, according to its annual report filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
UPS, the world's largest operator of Boeing 747-8Fs, inked a deal worth approximately $5.2 billion in October 2016 to purchase 14 of the planes, with options for 14 more. However, the Boeing 747 freighter is no longer in production, with the last unit delivered to Atlas Air on January 31, 2023. Since its first commercial flight in 1970, Boeing has supplied 1,574 of these aircraft to customers across the globe.
The new acquisitions will likely replace UPS's aging MD-11F fleet. As one of the last three operators of the MD-11F, UPS began retiring the tri-jet freighter earlier this year, though 40 of the Pratt & Whitney PW4000-powered aircraft remain in service.
