STOCKHOLM, SWEEDEN — Stockholm-based Swedish carrier Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA) has signed long-term operating leases with the Danish lessor Nordic Aviation Capital for two ATR 72-600s. The airline is currently shortlisting candidates for five A319s to be delivered in the first half of 2023.
One brand-new ATR 72-600 is delivered to the airline in Toulouse, France, this week. The second aircraft, which is a 2019 model second-hand turboprop, will be delivered in October this year. The two ATRs will expand the airline's domestic fleet in Sweden to 14 ATR 72-600s.
Braathens issued an RFP for five A319s in early July. The RFP has been met with significant interest from the lessor community, and the airline plans to have all leases in place by early October. The aircraft will predominantly be flying charters under a contract signed in June between Braathens and the leading Scandinavian tour operator Nordic Leisure Travel Group.
With a business model focusing on growth where we are able to fully capitalize on synergies," says Fredrik Matseng, COO at Braathens Regional Airlines.
