NEW YORK — Air Lease Corporation executive director Steven Udvar-Hazy cast doubt on the production ambitions of leading commercial aircraft manufacturers.

He also urged Boeing to revisit longer-term plans for a new mid-market jet with 200-plus seats to close the gap with the European planemaker Airbus.

Mr. Udvar-Hazy said the production targets of Boeing and Airbus were highly optimistic.

"We're much more realistic and do not anticipate that they'll be able to reach those targets in the timeframes that they've stated,"

he said during the J.P. Morgan Industrials Conference (March 16).
