YAKUTSK, RUSSIAYakutsk-based Russian regional carrier Polar Airlines acquires two 50-seat Bombardier Dash 8-300 turboprops from a Japanese lessor as part of the modernization process of its Soviet-era fleet.



The first aircraft with registration RA-67261 is owned by Japan’s Jione Financial Service. It entered into service with the African carrier Air Senegal International in 2001, and was operated by the and Canadian carriers respectively before being delivered to another Russian carrier Aurora in 2012.

Polar expects to take delivery of its first Dash 8 in early September. The aircraft will go into service alongside the airline's older generation Antonov An-24s and An-26s.

The second aircraft is expected to join the airline's fleet at the end of the year. The carrier intends to acquire three more Dash 8-300s by 2024. Polar also signed for three of the new Ilyushin Il-114-300, an upgraded version of the Il-114, which is still performing a certification campaign under the supervision of the Russian aviation regulator Rosaviatsiya.
